Course Overview

Course Description:
The Bloomers Music Theory course will cover essential concepts such as basic music literacy, technical aspects of composition, and classical music styles. Through this detailed course spanning three weeks of content and review, students will traverse across the fascinating world of music theory as they interact with high school instructors who have received recognition in piano and theory (state honors in CM exams, consistently scoring over 95% on the theory portions). By the end of this course, students will be able to gain a fundamental understanding of basic musical topics and see their theory knowledge bloom!

Course Features:
Our course will include the following features to promote understanding of the different aspects of classical music theory, as well as plenty of engaging and interactive activities to solidify the lessons learned.
A series of lectures encompassing the fundamentals of music theory, as outlined in the course description
A set of various activities such as icebreakers, lectures, and games (Kahoot, Quizlet Live, etc.) to measure students’ progress and keep classes engaging
A culminating final project where students will encapsulate their understanding of the lessons by creating and sharing an original musical composition

Course Calendar:
Six one-hour-long classes will be held on Thursdays and Sundays from July 25 to August 10 at 5:30 pm (over the duration of three weeks). All classes will be held over Zoom.
