Course Description:
Introduction to Sketching is a free introductory course about elements of art and composition. Through this detailed course of six, intense classes, students will be encouraged to explore the diverse world of art and step out of their comfort zones. By the end of this course, students will have a detailed understanding of basic sketching skills such as croquis sketching, still life, etc.
Course Features:
Introduction to Sketching is a course put together by the Bloom Institute, which will include the following features to promote understanding of how shape and dimension are used in sketching. Even without proper materials, students will learn how to identify different types of art elements and mediums. Regardless of their current skills, students will have an enriching time engaging in activities with hands-on experience. The following features will be included in the course:
- A series of discussions on how to observe shapes from real life and putting them together to create a composition.
- A set of various activities such as still lifes, shading exercises, simplifying shapes, etc.
- A culminating final project where students will apply everything they’ve learned from the 6-week course into a single art piece.
- An opportunity to showcase their art pieces in a google slides gallery and possibly featured on the Bloom Institute website.
Course Calendar:
All classes will be held weekly on Fridays for six weeks (with the exception of one week during Thanksgiving Break) from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM PST. Below are the specific dates of the classes:
