Course Description:
Introduction to Business Communication is a free introductory course about elements of real-world communication in the professional setting, as well as components of Speech and Debate. Through this detailed course spanning one week of content and review, students will be able to understand the significance and the method of professional communication and argument. By the end of this course, students will be able to gain crucial soft and hard skills necessary to thrive as they grow older and enter either a semi-professional or professional environment.
Course Features:
The Introduction to Business Communication curriculum was inspired by the California CTE (Career Technical Education) Principles of Business course and Future Business Leaders of America competitions, where effective business communication is highly valued. Our course will include the following features to promote understanding of the different aspects of professional communication, as well as plenty of engaging and interactive activities to solidify the lessons learned.
- A series of discussions on fundamental aspects of business communication, such as public speaking, interview, networking, pitching, etc…
- A set of various activities such as Shark Tank, public speaking exercises, networking games, and mock interviews
- A culminating final project where students will encapsulate their understanding of the lessons by creating and presenting a long term project that includes all the concepts taught throughout the course
- An opportunity to network with a real-life entrepreneur through enriching guest speaker sessions.
Course Calendar:
All classes will be held weekly on Sundays for six weeks (with the exception of one week during Thanksgiving Break) from 3:30 PM to 5 PM PST. Below are the specific dates of the classes.
